How much Herefordshire Council leaders earn.

From the Hereford Times

THE combined salaries of 13 senior managers at cash-strapped Herefordshire Council are now worth more than £1.2 million. New figures confirm the salaries of the “lucky” 13 to make up the council’s top earners as from January 1 this year.

As previously revealed by the Hereford Times, the council needs to make up an unprecedented £10m shortfall on its budget for 2013/14 and has invited the public to “make your own cuts” with essential services already close to the bone.

The “lucky” 13 by post are:

• Chief Executive - £145,000

• Director of Corporate Services - £130,000

• Director for People’s Services (Director of Adult Social Services; Director of Children’s Services) - £120,000.

• Director for Places and Communities - £120,000

• Director of Public Health £97,478

• Asst. Director – Children and Young People’s Provider Services - £78,231

• Asst. Director – People’s Services Commissioning - £78,231

• Asst. Director – Economic, Environmental and Cultural Services - £76,176

• Asst. Director – Place Based Commissioning - £76,176

• Asst. Director – Homes and Community Services - £76,176

• Asst. Director of Law, Governance and Resilience (Monitoring Officer) - £90,000

• Asst. Director People, Policy and Partnerships - £78,231

• Chief Officer, Finance & Commercial Services - £90,000.

Combined sarlary total - £1,255,699.

The council’s employment panel meets next week to debate potential changes pay policies and terms and conditions.

Once again I find myself agreeing with a "non-person" pseudonym and again unusually with the comments of Cllrs Swinford and Smith. It is also worth remembering the CEO of HFD Council is empowered to employ the services outside Management Consultants to report upon the remit he/she is responsible for at a similar fee for which he/she is employed to do. However let us not forget Tory Hereford Tax Payers -“We are all in this together”

Would'nt it be great to see all very highly paid MPs,CEOs and others taking a cut back to a LIVING Wage instead of hitting the poorer paid workers and general public.

Given that many local hardworking, conscientious, helpful people are currently being made redundant by Herefordshire Council after giving many years of loyal service to Herefordshire I find some of the comments on here as bordering on very offensive. People have obviously no idea what Herefordshire Council employees do and in their ignorance are causing those who work loyally for the community some distress!

The word "leaders" in the title is slightly misleading - better would be "officers". The basic allowance for a Herefordshire Councillor is £7,244 p.a. and expenses are only paid for statutory duties, such as attending planning committee. There is nothing paid for travelling the Ward helping constituents, attending Parish Council meetings etc.

I agree with Trevor that the job titles are a problem: what the heck is "Place based commissioning"?

Dare I say it but feathers and nest spring to mind!

Add to that the layers below them and it is a lot of tax payers money going on administration instead of the much needed services. Wonder how much time is spent in 'talking shops', commitee meetings, or just walking round with a folder under the arm.

For me, the amazing thing about most of these job titles is they create no picture of what these people do or are reponsible for!

Our Herefordshire CEO takes home a salary of £145,000. He serves a population of 184,000. The Prime Minister's pay is £142,500. The UK population is more that 60,000,000. Can somebody explain this?
