A meeting of the Town Council will take place on Monday 21st January at 7.30pm at the Council Chambers Rowberry Street. Members of the public are most welcome to attend. For Agenda click here
Gary. It is my democratic right to challenge my local Council on any subject I feel affects my family and my fellow residents. Having had involvement with local authorities in an earlier life I have very good cause to be sceptical about decisions and claims published by Town Councillors! My prime reason for raising the profile of the 20 year plan is to ensure that, not only I keep myself updated with scheduled timescales surrounding the plan but also hopefully to maximise the Consultation publicity for the benefit of Bromyard
I did not say that Bromyard should be "grateful"; I said that the town is fortunate to have a professional, hard-working Town Council, and I truly believe that. With regard to the comment about "is it in the interest of a collective few" I'm not sure what you are talking about, but you do seem to see conspiracy at every turn for some reason. If you are referring to the new 20-year Local Plan for Bromyard this will go to public consultation yet again in March, so you will be able to have your say then.
The problem facing the site regarding anonymous names is that whilst a name like 'despair' is obviously a pseudonym the name 'Ron Smith' is not. Unless we personally know people, (and disregarding people who post using a well known, albeit not their own, name) we cannot possibly tell who is anonymous. Unless anyone can come up with a better solution we have two choices: allow all posts which do not break our guidelines OR stop the posting of any comments. So please email editorbromyard.info with your suggestions. This topic will not be discussed any further under comments.
Local Taxpayer - when did you last bother to come to a Council meeting,or any Committee meeting, all open to the public. As a town Coucillor I am in the Conquest every Saturday morning to deal with any issues residents might have.I have no problem with anyone not agreeing with me, ask Bernard Hunt,we have a fundemental difference on one paricular issue but remain good colleagues.
Whatever ones views are on the use of pseudonyms, a practice I personally cannot endorse, Cllr Whittaker must remember many of his fellow councillors comment under the guise of a pseudonym. That said I have to agree with everything Local Tax Payer has written. Yes all towns need a Council to act as “Watchdog” in the towns interest but is the proposed spending of £2000 in these times of austerity really in Bromyard’s interest? Or is it in the interest of a collective few knowing what could lay ahead? Be assured however, whilst Cllr Swinford likes to express how grateful Bromyard should be for having such a hardworking professional Council the role albeit voluntary is accountable at the end of the day!
I think it's about time this website stopped allowing people to make remarks under a pseudonym. The same should apply to the Facebook page. I have done this in the past but realised what poor form it was when I saw folks try to goad others. If you want to say something at least have the conviction to use your name. The Register news website labels all anonymous posters as, 'Anonymous Coward.'
Bernard I agree all councillors should have their say and I agree with quite a lot of your views and definately agree with you about waste of money, my comment was aimed more about those who read more as if the council are 'all knowing' and us plebs should be eternally grateful and tow the council views blindly.
Town Councillors serve the community and indeed give up huge amounts of their time freely and with good-will. Some of the issues the Town Council is dealing with are complex and the town is very fortunate to have a body of councillors who have the expertise to deal with these issues in a professional manner. Secondly, when looking at the spending of tax-payers money, there should be a bit of balance to the debate. As I said earlier the huge time commitment of councillors in Bromyard saves the tax-payers £10,000s, so a bit of balance to the debate please.
Councillor Seldon and I are at the Conquest Theatre virtual every Saturday morning; we would be pleased to see anyone who wants to discuss any issue.
It is difficult to have a dialogue with someone hiding behind the pseudonym of "Local Tax Payer"; we're all local tax payers - please come and talk to us.
