A public meeting was held on Thursday, 18th  February.

A heavy snowfall prevented many people from being present, and apologies were received from Cllr Gill Churchill, Cllr Gary Swinford, Peter Mercer-Wilson and Chris Gooding.

MM outlined the work that had already been done to produce the Bromyard Market Town Plan, and the need to move forward with an Action Group and Committee. It was likely that Gary Swinford would accept the position of Chairman, and Gill Churchill would be Treasurer. A Secretary, to keep the Minutes and call meetings, was sought.

As a follow-up to the successful Shop Fronts Scheme, MM suggested that the Group might seek to improve the town’s street scene; for example, some litter bins, lamp posts and pillar boxes need cleaning and repainting. This would make for a more attractive town and encourage tourists.

The problem of dog mess was discussed. After some years of reduction in the amount of dog mess left on pavements and in public places, the problem is re-emerging. The new Riverside Walk has been spoiled by dog mess. Mayor Jamie Jacobsen said that an ex-police employee is now available to tackle the problem, if members of the public report incidents. Abandoned cars could also be reported to the Town Clerk, and they would be removed.

Date of the next meeting: Thursday, 18th March 2010.

Present were: Malcolm Moore, who took the Chair, Judy Wooland, Edgar and Betty Whiteley and Terry Osborn (Bromyard’s new REACH Community Development Co-ordinator).
