No, it's not an extension to the Police station.  It's Bill Shakespeare we're talking about.Â

It's his birthday on April 23rd, and there will (Will?  oops!) be activity in Bromyard as part of a national project to put the Bard back where he belongs -- in the forefront!Â
Â
The nationwide project has been initiated by the renowned actor Ian Flintoff, backed by the performers' Union Equity.  It's called Shakespeare United. The ultimate plan is to include Will's Works as part of the excitement of Olympic year.  Â
The London Olympics aren't until 2012, as you well know.  However, Shakespeare is re-born every year, and for 2010 the Shakespeare United project is encouraging people to do something -- anything! - related to Mr W.S., events large and small, silly and serious.  We want lots more individuals and groups to hold events -- could be a coffee morning with sonnets in a cafe, a Morris dance (Will called it the Moorish dance, and talked about the Nine Men's Morris), or someone playing a lute in a pub!  Kids' versions in school of 'stories from the plays'?  An Elizabethan dance class?  A Shakespearean pub quiz?  Remember, we said anything -- the funnier and more bizarre the better, Will liked a laugh.  If you fancy getting involved in a spot of Shakespeare-ism on 23rd (or 24th or 25th!) April, let Chris Barltrop (01885 483887 /

) know about it and he'll get you included in the regional and national publicity drive.   Taking place so far in Bromyard: The Conquest Youth Theatre: Shakespeare Shorties. Saturday 24th April in the Conquest Theatre foyer from 10am. Eat, drink, and be part of Merrie England with Shakespearean Snax and infusions of Colombian Nectar (coffee to you and me!), as the Players perform Snippets of Shakespeare at your command. The Falcon Mews:  Friday 23rd April at 7.30pm. The Chamberlain's Men, with Mr W Shakespeare and others, performing a straitened version of The Taming of the Shrew for the entertainment of diners at an Elizabethan Banquet.  Details from the Falcon. Starting off in the Market Place: Sunday 25th April at 10.30am through the morning, Sonnet Sunday: Bromyard Poets invite you to listen to readings of traditional and modern sonnets, and to join in if you wish to read some of your own choice.  They plan to read at least one sonnet in every cafe and pub in Bromyard -- sounds like a bit more of Merrie England to round off the Bard's Weekend.   In Worcester, where in 1582 the Bishop granted Will Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway their Marriage Licence, the actor Ben Humphrey is organising a 24-hour Shakespeare Marathon, with readings and performances by professional and amateur performers.  Venues around the City -- details later.Â
