A PROFESSIONAL declutterer is urging residents to clear out their cupboards and raise much-needed funds for a Worcester children’s hospice. Julia Bouston from Bromyard, who runs the company Clutter Control, has made it her mission to help people clear their homes, offices and garages of unwanted items.
Ms Bouston, who says too many of us hoard junk, is now organising Worcester’s first Clutter Control swap shop and sale.
The event, in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice, will take place at the Guildhall, High Street, Worcester, on Saturday, January 16. Members of the public can donate unwanted clutter in exchange for items that they actually need and will use.
Participants are being asked to donate before the event by dropping clutter – which must be in good condition – off at Acorns in Bath Road or at Worcestershire County Cricket Club in New Road.
In return they will be given a ticket for each item which can be redeemed at the swap shop and sale.
Ms Bouston said: “I realised that many of us are holding on to too much clutter in our lives that we don’t need, use or want.
“It is a very cathartic and liberating experience to clear out an area in your house or office and to know that someone else is able to benefit from your unwanted clutter.”
Even those who do not donate in advance can take part in the event.
Ms Bouston, who lives in Bromyard, said: “While we would like items in advance people can come in off the street and get involved.
“We all get Christmas presents we don’t want and we all have things in the cupboard that we don’t use.
“We live in such a consumer-led society that people are always buying things they don’t need.”
Items that can be donated include unwanted gifts, such as packaged candles or toiletries, china, glass, toys and games that are in a good condition – but not old soft toys – and good quality clothes.
Anyone who wants to donate larger items, such as bicycles or items of furniture, should speak to Ms Bouston on 079886 92766 or contact her by e-mail on
